The Pacific Northwest Chapbook Contest

  • The Pacific Northwest Chapbook Contest is an annual contest run by the Sapperton Press and judged by our editorial team.

    Please note that there is a non-refundable submission fee of $25 to help us cover the cost of running the contest.

    The winner of the contest will receive:

    • $300 cash prize

    • A publication contract with The Sapperton Press for a 100-copy initial print run of your chapbook, with the potential for additional print runs

    • 15 author copies of your chapbook

    • Distribution of your chapbook online and in independent Canadian bookstores

  • Please ensure you follow our submission guidelines. Entries that do not adhere to these guidelines will not be considered.

    • Chapbooks should include 10-30 poems max.

    • Do not include your name anywhere in the document.

    • All entries must have a title page, table of contents, and page numbers.

    • Use 12pt. font Times New Roman or Garamond, single-spaced.

    • If your submission includes uniquely formatted poems, please submit BOTH a .doc or .docx AND a .pdf file.

    • Each poem should start on a new page and be clearly titled.

    • Your entry should not, in part or in full, have made use of Artificial Intelligence.

    • If individual poems have been previously published elsewhere, in print or online, you must hold the publication rights for these poems. Please include an acknowledgments page for previously published poems.

    • While individual poems may have been previously published, your chapbook in its entirety may not have been published previously (either self-published or by a different press).

    • Poets entering our contest must be a Canadian citizen or currently residing in Canada. We are not accepting international submissions at this time.
